Question 1

What happens to transparency when converting PNG to JPG?

Accepted Answer

JPG has no alpha channel, so transparent areas must be filled with a solid colour. Pick that colour here — white is the usual choice, but matching your page background avoids a visible box.

Question 2

Should I convert PNG to JPG?

Accepted Answer

For photographs, yes — JPG is far smaller at the same perceived quality. For logos, screenshots, text or anything with sharp edges or transparency, stay on PNG, because JPG adds visible smudging around hard edges.

Question 3

Is converting PNG to JPG lossy?

Accepted Answer

Yes. JPG discards detail to save space, and that loss is permanent. Keep your original PNG if you may need to edit it again later.
